People ask me "how much for a private chef in Bali?" almost every day. The honest answer is: it depends on group size more than anything else, because the chef hire fee is a fixed cost that splits across your guests. This page lays out the actual numbers for groups of 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 20, across three different dinner menu price points, so you can plan your budget with no surprises.
How the Pricing Works
Every private chef booking with me has two components:
- Per-person menu price — covers groceries (sourced fresh from local Bali markets that morning), cooking, plated service and full cleanup. Ranges from IDR 125,000 (Indonesian breakfast) up to IDR 375,000 (Western dinner). Full pricing here.
- Per-day chef hire fee — covers my time, transport, professional equipment and on-site labour. IDR 400,000 for a day of breakfast or lunch service, IDR 800,000 for a day of dinner or BBQ service.
The clever bit: the chef hire fee is fixed, not per-person. So a couple covers it between two people, but a group of 10 splits it ten ways. That's why per-person cost drops sharply with group size.
Full Budget by Group Size — Dinner
Numbers below are for one evening of dinner service, with the IDR 800,000 chef hire fee included. All amounts in IDR.
Mexican Fiesta dinner (per-person menu: IDR 240,000)
Indonesian or Balinese dinner (per-person menu: IDR 325,000)
Western Favourites dinner (per-person menu: IDR 375,000)
Breakfast Budgets (Quick Reference)
Breakfast has a smaller chef hire fee (IDR 400,000 per day), so it's already affordable for couples.
- Couple, Indonesian breakfast (IDR 125k pp): total ~IDR 650,000 → ~IDR 325,000 pp
- Group of 4, American breakfast (IDR 150k pp): total ~IDR 1,000,000 → ~IDR 250,000 pp
- Group of 8, Continental breakfast (IDR 125k pp): total ~IDR 1,400,000 → ~IDR 175,000 pp
Multi-Day Booking Tip
If you're staying 5–7 nights and want 3–4 chef dinners, the maths gets even better because the menu prices stay the same and you only pay the chef hire fee on the days I cook. Many groups end up averaging well under IDR 400,000 per person per dinner across their whole stay.
What's NOT Included
To be transparent: per-person prices include everything edible (ingredients, prep, cooking, plating, cleanup) but not these optional extras:
- Drinks beyond water/coffee/tea — most guests stock their villa fridge themselves; I can also organise wine pairing or a bartender add-on.
- Outlying-villa travel — a small travel adjustment may apply for villas far from main service areas (e.g. west Bali, deep Tabanan). I'll quote this upfront.
- Premium ingredient swaps — wagyu, lobster, premium wines etc., quoted on request.

FAQ
How much for a private chef in Bali for a couple?
Roughly IDR 640,000–775,000 per person for a mid-to-upper-range dinner. Restaurants are often cheaper for two, but the villa experience and full menu customisation can still make it worth it.
Is there a minimum group size?
No — I cook for two guests upwards. The chef hire fee is the same regardless of group size, so couples pay a higher per-person rate, but it's still very reasonable.
What's the best group size for value?
6–10 guests is the sweet spot. The per-person total drops to roughly IDR 400,000–500,000 for dinner, and the menu costs scale linearly while the chef fee is fixed.
